Medway Towpath walking & cycling route

Save this item

The Medway Towpath provides a long and peaceful stretch of riverside pathway, which is ideal for walking and cycling. The towpath can be cycled between Aylesford and Barming Bridge, with the path running through the centre of Maidstone, so you can start your route from the town and head in either direction along the river. If you work in Maidstone town centre, you can even head to the towpath for some relaxation during your lunch break.

There’s more information about the Medway Towpath, including maps of the route, available through our friends at Explore Kent, so click on the link below to take a look, and check out the videos below for some inspiration.

Closure of the towpath between Aylesford Car Park and footpath MR473A at Lipscomb Volvo (the link with Forstal Road) as the result of a landslip.

The entire section of path will be closed from Monday 15th June 2023 in order to ensure public safety. It is anticipated that the work will take many months due to the scale of what is needed to repair the path. Once construction work commences at the site and it can be properly secured is is hoped to open access from either side again.

An alternative route is available along the footpath beside Lipscomb Volvo to connect with Forstal Road and then using the pavements to give access to Aylesford Village.
