Save this itemHave you made a promise to yourself to be more active? Lots of us join a gym and plan to get fit, but after a few months we lose interest. There is another way. You don’t need to spend a fortune on gym memberships – you can get fit and have fun by doing loads of free outdoor activities across the county.
Together with our friends at Explore Kent, we have put together a series of suggestions for things you can do to get more active without spending a thing.

Outdoor gyms
Outdoor gyms are a brilliant way to tone up, get fit and work out without the price tag of an indoor gym. In an outdoor gym, you can expect to find all the equipment you will find in a regular gym and it’ll be easier to use too.

Trail running can involve running along a public footpath, or through a country park, and thanks to the varied terrain it’ll get you fitter quicker. Sound good?

Trim trails are running and walking routes around country parks that incorporate free fitness equipment, for those who want to improve their fitness while running, jogging or walking through the park.

parkrun
parkrun offer 5km timed events every Saturday morning in areas of open space around the UK. They are free, open to all, whether you’re a runner, jogger, walker or volunteer, and they are safe and easy to take part in.
Geocaching
Geocaching is a brilliant way to start exploring the outdoors and discovering hidden treasure. If you’re looking to add purpose to your walk in addition to looking at great views and getting fitter, geocaching is for you.
