Save this itemCycling is wonderful exercise for both the body and mind, providing a fantastic physical workout along with making a real difference to your mental wellbeing. In short, cycling can make you feel great. In Kent and Medway there are loads of brilliant cycling routes and facilities, while there are also plenty of options for beginners.
We caught up with Abi to find out how learning to cycle has improved her wellbeing and helped her to be more active in her everyday life.
Abi told us “Cycling was something I couldn’t do before. An opportunity came up through Diversity House to learn how to cycle. My first session was an interesting one. There was a lot of anxiousness, fear and I didn’t want to fall. I learnt how to stabilise which was very nice and that gave me a boost to my confidence. It made me realise if I put my hand to something, I can do it”.
She also added “I have a little one who doesn’t know how to cycle. She watched me and it encouraged her as well. I was quite moved by that. Through cycling, I’ve met a new network of friends and we look forward to meeting every week. My health has improved immensely. It’s just wonderful to be able to do this and have this opportunity”.
